Strictly’s Nadiya Bychkova admits there is MORE rivalry between the professional boys

Strictly Come Dancing’s Nadiya Bychkova has hinted that there is some behind-the-scenes rivalry between the male professionals on the ballroom dancing show.

The professional dancer, 30, revealed that although viewers may expect the girls to be in competition with one another, it is actually the men that have some rivalry.

Appearing on Thursday’s episode of FUBAR Radio, Nadiya revealed the surprise competition between the pro dancers while discussing the upcoming series.

Speaking to hosts Bobby Norris and Stephen Leng on Access All Areas, she explained: ‘All of us girls are pretty close, which probably would be something that people would not expect. But all of us are pretty close.

Nadiya, who was last year paired with former professional goalkeeper David James, said: ‘Every summer we talk about going on holidays together.’

When asked if there were any rivalries on the show, she said that the girls didn’t have any but confessed: ‘I don’t want to be saying too much but there’s more competition between the boys to be honest!’

This year’s series of Strictly is surrounded by much anticipation as little is known of how it will cope with the effects of COVID-19.

Speaking of the upcoming series, the Ukrainian explained: ‘I’m sure it will be different, but it might be even better! I think we all are so excited about actually Strictly’s happening!’

Despite the many rumours circulating, which include the professionals having to quarantine together and no live audience, Nadiya had little more light to shed: ‘I know as much as all of you and what’s been released in the press release.

‘I can’t wait to get back on the dance floor. Restrictions are changing all the time, literally, from day to day, so we will see.

‘I mean the work everyone did in production to make it happen, so I’m really looking forward to it and so excited to be dancing with everyone soon. It doesn’t matter even if it will be from a distance, it’s still good enough!’

A few months ago, fellow Strictly dancer Katya Jones revealed the pro’s usually start rehearsing at the end of July, but Nadiya admitted not much has happened yet: ‘We started in a sense of talking about it.

‘I’m sure our main choreographer Jason, he’s probably prepared most of the things. The routine of how we’re gonna do it and probably timings will be a bit different this year but everything is moving.

‘Step by step, day by day, but absolutely different what it usually will be. As long as it’s happening, it’s already amazing!’

Finally, when asked about the big rumour that judge Bruno Tonioli will not appear in this year’s series due to filming constrictions in America, Nadiya commented: ‘It will be different without him. I think he always added something extra, something spectacular.’

Nadiya’s comments come following reports that Bruno is set to make a comeback to Strictly later this year after ditching the show amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to reports.

The 64-year-old judge would usually jet between London and Los Angeles to sit on the panel for both the long-running UK show as well as its US counterpart Dancing With The Stars.

But due to the global coronavirus pandemic impacting travel restrictions it was reported that the Italian choreographer had favoured the US version when forced to pick just one of the shows.

It is thought that BBC bosses are still keen to get Bruno to the UK and hope that he could make a comeback for the Strictly final later this year.

A source told The Daily Star: ‘Everyone at Strictly was devastated when they found out Bruno was going to pull out of this year’s series.

‘Travel restrictions in place because of coronavirus meant he couldn’t fly back and forth to do both shows this year, so he picked Dancing With The Stars. But Strictly’s producers were still keen for him to make an appearance if it was possible.’

The source added: ‘Dancing With The Stars usually ends a few weeks before Strictly’s final. So the plan is for Bruno to jet back to the UK as soon as he’s finished with his commitments in the US.

‘There will be enough time for him to do two weeks in quarantine if needed. And then he will be free to make his big comeback on Strictly.’

MailOnline has contacted Bruno’s representatives for comment.
