Jessica Mauboy’s new single has a strange connection to one of her to Australian Idol performance 

At just 17-years-old, Jessica Mauboy rose to stardom after finishing as a runner-up on Australian Idol back in 2006. 

And the singer, now 31, was shocked to discover that her new single ‘Butterfly’ has a strange connection to one of her performances on the singing competition. 

The Sapphires actress sang a powerful rendition of Mariah Carey’s classic ballad ‘Butterfly’ to score a spot in the top three on the show.

‘Wow … holey moley, hang on, I need to look that up! I totally forgot I sang that song,’ Jessica told the Gold Coat Bulletin when asked about it.

The actress then looked up the footage of her 2006 performance saying: ‘This is so freaky.’ 

She added: ‘I’m going to have to pull it up again and show [fiance] Them [Magripilis] because I don’t think he ever watched Idol.’ 

Jessica said that her new single is all about ‘transformation’ and the ‘imperfect love’ of her parents’ relationship. 

Last week Jessica’s fiance Themeli offered fans a rare glimpse into their romance when he shared a photo to Instagram of the couple as they celebrated Jessica’s 31st birthday. 

The image showed Jessica lying down on a picnic blanket alongside her long-term partner and smiling for the camera over her shoulder. 

‘My Birthday Girl!’ he captioned the sweet photograph.  

The couple, who have been dating for more than a decade, confirmed their engagement in October last year.

Jessica revealed that Themeli had proposed while they were on holiday in Greece visiting his family.

Themeli, a soccer player from the Northern Territory, reportedly sought approval from his family in Greece before asking Jessica to marry him.
