The numbers are in! The Bachelorette draws the LOWEST premiere ratings in the franchise’s history as its beaten by Channel Nine’s The Block

The Bachelorette failed to deliver big ratings for its premiere on Wednesday, despite revamping the format this season by casting two sisters in the lead role.

The first episode launched the lowest ever premiere ratings in the franchise’s history.

The broadcast was watched by just 628,000 viewers in the five-city metro market, putting it behind several other entertainment programs.

Channel Nine’s The Block was the most-watched entertainment program of the night with 744,000 metro viewers. 

ABC’s Hard Quiz also came in ahead of the Channel 10 dating show, drawing an audience of 672,000 in the five major cities.

In previous years, The Bachelorette has fared much better.

Channel Nine's The Block, was the top rating entertainment program of the night with 744,000 metro viewers

Angie Kent’s season in 2019 launched to 716,000 metro viewers. 

Sophie Monk’s season in 2017 drew the franchise’s highest ever numbers, with 951,000 metro viewers tuning in to see the singer and actress meet her suitors.

In 2015, the inaugural series pulled in 875,000 metro viewers. About 655,000 people tuned in for the 2016 premiere, while 631,000 watched Ali Oetjen’s premiere in 2018.

During Wednesday’s episode, Elly and Becky met their suitors for the first time.

James ‘Harry’ Harris was awarded the Country Rose, which means he will be joining the sisters on the first double date of the series, alongside Shannon Karaka.

Despite this early advantage, concreter Frazer Neate is the odds-on favourite to win nurse Elly’s affection, according to Sportsbet.

Meanwhile, café owner Pete Mann is tipped to steal defence specialist Becky’s heart.

The Bachelorette continues Thursday at 7:30pm on Channel 10
