A Tory MP who featured in a television show about her age gap relationship has described how sexist yobs hurled abuse at her from a passing car.

Dehenna Davison, 27, says she was told to ‘get my t*** out’ after she was recognised while walking home from the shops on Saturday.

Another man called the Bishop Auckland MP a ‘Tory c***’, leading Ms Davison to joke: ‘It’s great that people are starting to recognise their new MP, but I think I might need to work on the messaging!’

Ms Davison became the first Conservative MP in the former Labour stronghold in more than 80 years when she snatched the seat from Helen Goodman in December.

She won a majority of almost 8,000 as her party made unprecedented gains across the North East.

Following the General Election, she split from Hull councillor John Fareham – who she married in 2018.

The pair had appeared on the Channel 4 show Bride and Prejudice a year earlier, which documented the couple’s push for acceptance from the MP’s grandfather.

Ms Davison, then 24, was 35 years younger than Mr Fareham, 59, who was similar in age to her grandfather at the time.

On Saturday, the 27-year-old revealed the vile abuse she had suffered while walking in the street.

‘Walking home from the shop and someone shouted my name from a car,’ tweeted the politician to her 33,000 followers.

‘The first lad told me to get my t*ts out. The other called me a Tory c***.’

She joked: ‘It’s great that people are starting to recognise their new MP, but I think I might need to work on the messaging.’

Supporters slammed the ‘vulgar’ and ‘sexist’ yobs and commented: ‘Real women’ rise above these idiots – it says more about them.’

The MP revealed on World Suicide Prevention Day how she once considered taking her own life after a string of tragedies including the death of her father.
