Blake Shelton ‘requested permission from Gwen Stefani’s sons to pop the question’

He recently got engaged to Gwen Stefani, but before popping the question Blake Shelton made sure to run the idea by the three other people closest to her.

The 44-year-old country singer requested ‘permission’ from Gwen’s sons Kingston, 14, Zuma, 12, and Apollo, six, whom she shares with her first husband Gavin Rossdale, a People insider shared on Wednesday.

‘Blake told her boys that he wanted to propose and asked their permission. Her family very much approves of him,’ the source dished. 

‘He’s an amazing partner and a great extra dad to the boys. Gwen is ecstatic. The proposal was a surprise,’ the insider continued.

The country star, who was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive several years back, got engaged to Gwen, 51, at his ranch in Oklahoma.

Although they went public with the news last week an Us Weekly source has said: ‘They have been in prenup talks for a few months.’

However the insider noted: ‘The process has been extremely effortless,’ with ‘no hiccups, or outrageous demands’ cropping up.

Gwen is set on a prenuptial agreement as ‘she just can’t afford to not have it with Blake’ owing to the lack of one with Gavin, the source alleges.

The insider also said of the engagement: ‘Blake is very close to Gwen’s boys. They talked it through and Blake made sure they were part of the excitement!’

Blake himself has been married and divorced twice before – first to Kaynette Williams and then to fellow country star Miranda Lambert.

He and Gwen got together in 2015 in the wake of his divorce from Miranda, at which point Gwen was still in the process of legally ending her marriage to Gavin.
