Harry Potter villain Tom Felton holds a virtual 19 year reunion

Harry Potter star Tom Felton hosted a virtual reunion with the movies’ biggest stars, including Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint, which aired on Monday.

Hosting a ‘Home Party’ on YouTube, the star, 33, marked 19 years since the first movie, Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone aired and asked the cast of the movie: ‘What does 19 years later mean to you?’

Rupert, 32, who played Ron Weasley, revealed his nickname was ‘Go Again Grint’ as he would laugh so much on-set and require many takes, while Daniel, who played the titular character of The Boy Who Lived, spoke of the ‘insane’ amount of time.

J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone, was originally published in 1997, and introduced the character of Harry Potter and the world of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, before hitting screens in 2001.

The franchise went on to be a series of eight movies following of from seven books, with the second part of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows released in 2010.

To mark the 19 years since the first movie was released, Tom staged the reunion, prior to which he admitted he can’t imagine life without Potter.

Introducing the segment, Tom excitedly said: ‘One of the luckiest sods and smiley gits in the world. I was lucky enough to pose this question to my old school chums, what does 19 years later mean to you?’

New dad Rupert, who welcomed his first child, a daughter Wednesday, with Georgia Groome in May, admitted it had been ‘an insane amount of time’ since the movies.

He recalled his first scene, his funniest scenes and how it felt ‘overwhelming’ to step into the Wizarding World nearly 20 years ago.

The flame-haired movie icon also gave a candid insight into life on-set, as he said: ‘I remember on Potter it would always be the most inappropriate scenes, like Dumbledore’s funeral was a particularly bad one…

‘For some reason I found that absolutely hilarious. Yeah, once you start laughing, it’s very hard to stop. I had a particularly bad reputation, they used to call me Go Again Grint because I could never do anything without doing it like 20 times.’

Daniel, who played the titular character, said: ‘My first thoughts are that this is a mere preview of the nostalgia we’ll all be showing next year when it’s 20 years since the first film was released. I feel like we’ll be doing a lot of reminiscing in various forms.

‘It feels insane as I’m sure it does for anyone whose 30 or 31. It seems impossible that that time has past it feels very fresh. It’s been amazing to watch the whole thing continue to grow since it finished and not just the play and Fantastic Beasts.

Tom’s on-screen father Jason Isaacs, who played the chilling Lucius Malfoy, also made an appearance and delightedly discussed how the world of Harry Potter has ‘radically changed’ fans’ lives all around the globe.

Oliver Phelps, who played George Weasley, said: ‘It’s funny, it’s still incredible to think that 19 years ago the world got into Potter on the big screen rather than the books…

‘There was a lot of noise around it. At the start there was no social media so you couldn’t see fan reaction and that was quite liberating…

Bonnie Wright, who starred as Ginny, went on: ‘Can’t believe it’s been 19 years. It became a framework to my life and you forget the wizarding world was so long ago. The world is kept alive by fans… time can be warped as its very much inside us still.’

Their on-screen brother Chris Rankin, who played Percy, gushed over being grateful for the franchise and his wonderment that the wizarding world is still relevant.
