George Clooney reflects on their fifteen-year feud with Russell Crowe

George Clooney admits he was taken by surprise when Russell Crowe branded him a ‘sell-out’ as he reflects on their fifteen-year feud

It has been fifteen years since he was labelled a ‘sell-out’ by Russell Crowe for acting in a string of TV commercials.

And George Clooney has now reflected on his feud with the Australian actor, admitting that his hurtful comments took him by complete surprise.

Speaking to GQ, the 59-year-old recalled: ‘Just out of the blue, he’s like, “I’m not some sell-out like Robert De Niro and Harrison Ford and George Clooney.” I’m like, “Where the f*** did that come from?”‘

‘Where the f*** did that come from?’ George Clooney has now reflected on his feud with Australian actor Russell Crowe, admitting that his hurtful comments took him by complete surprise

Clooney first spoke out about his dispute with Crowe back in 2013, telling Esquire that the Gladiator actor ended up sending him a book of poetry to apologise for starting a fight with him.

‘The truth is that [Russell Crowe] did send me a book of poems to apologise for insulting the s*** out of me, which he did,’ George said.

‘He picked a fight with me. He started it for no reason at all. He put out this thing saying, “George Clooney, Harrison Ford, and Robert De Niro are sellouts.”‘

In return, George released a statement about Russell’s comments while also making fun of his rock band, 30 Odd Foot of Grunts.

‘And I put out a statement saying, “He’s probably right. And I’m glad he told us, ’cause Bob and Harrison and I were also thinking about starting a band, which would also fall under the heading of bad use of celebrity.”‘

George revealed: ‘And that’s when he really went off on me. “Who the f*** does this guy think he is? He’s a Frank Sinatra wannabe.” He really went after me.’

Knowing that he might run into George during awards season some time later, Russell then attempted to apologise to George.

‘I think he said “I was misquoted” and I was like, “Yeah, yeah. Whatever.”‘

Meanwhile, George added to his new interview with GQ that he isn’t a fan of feuding and much rather prefers other celebrities coming to blows on social media.

‘I have much more fun watching Chrissy Teigen. Somebody steps into her world and you go, “Oh, I wouldn’t do that, dude.” It’s so much fun,’ he said.
