I’m A Celebrity’s Giovanna Fletcher has ‘finally accepted’ her body

Giovanna Fletcher has said that she ‘finally accepts’ her body after directing ‘so much negativity towards it’ over the years.

Writing an emotional essay to herself in a book earlier this year, the I’m A Celebrity contestant, 35, admitted she had learnt to celebrate her body after growing ‘three amazingly wonderful boys’.

Reflecting on her confidence journey since becoming a mother, Giovanna apologised to her body for failing to see its ‘strength’ and ‘value’ over the years.

In her typical humour, the author admitted that she feels like a ‘total t*t’ and vowed to ’embrace’ her changing figure in the future.

In an excerpt obtained by the Mirror, Giovanna penned: ‘When my children look at you they do not see your lumps and bumps, the dimpling of flesh, or the silvery indented lines… when they see you, they see me.

‘We are one. I’m sorry that I’ve spent so much of my time disliking you. I failed to see that you were damaged, hurt, and in need of my love. I never realised your strength.

‘It’s funny, I thought I’d hate you more than ever now. Bigger, more stretched, droopier, saggier, more worn, achy and wobbly.

‘I don’t. I value you now and only wish I had done so sooner. I know you’ll continue to change but I’ll do my best to embrace that.’

Giovanna added: ‘There will be days when my mind wobbles and compares you to others but I have finally accepted you and I understand just how special you are. It’s taken me ages to begin to feel this way about my body.

‘I’ve directed so much negativity towards it over the years – berated it for miscarrying, punished it for taking up too much space, hated it for not looking like I’ve been told it should look.

‘But now I feel like a total t*t. Not only did my body grow three amazingly wonderful boys and push them all out… it’s still flipping standing and enabling me to take on challenges.’

In 2017, the author revealed that she suffered a heartbreaking secret miscarriage before falling pregnant with Buzz.

Talking at BUILD Series London at the time, Giovanna said she was even more determined to hit out against body-shaming.

She explained: ‘I just had this feeling that [the human body] is amazing actually. After having a miscarriage, when I felt like it had completely failed me that the body can do this.

‘We scrutinise it and we put it down all the time. Who actually cares? We all need to just get rid of that. That’s not what our bodies are actually there for.

‘People really bash online, they think it’s full of trolls and it’s just not. My experience of the internet is that it’s actually amazing. It’s a wonderful community of supportive people.’

Giovanna is currently competing on the 2020 series of I’m A Celebrity alongside the likes of Vernon Kay, Victoria Derbyshire and Jordan North.

Only recently, her husband Tom revealed on This Morning that the blogger is using a sweet way to stay in touch with their three children.

Giovanna has been seen holding her thumb to her nose and wiggling her fingers, with host Holly Willoughby asking Tom – who was being interviewed with his McFly bandmates – what the gesture meant.

She asked: ‘Was that for the boys?’ with the star responding: ‘Yeah that was a little signal. When she does that, that’s a signal to the kids.’

I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! kicked off its first ever UK-based series on earlier this month, with the celebrities reaching their new home at Gwrych Castle, Wales, for the first time.
