The celebrities who picked up a gong at this year’s socially distanced ARIA Awards 2020

And the winners are… The celebrities who picked up a gong at this year’s socially distanced ARIA Awards 2020

Guy Sebastian picked up the award for Best Video at the ARIA Awards 2020 in Sydney on Wednesday.

The 39-year-old Choir singer was one of just a handful of celebrities present to collect their award live at the socially distanced award show.

‘Such an honour to be amongst everybody who was nominated, and it’s never something that I take for granted winning something like this,’ he said.

Following Guy’s win, Tim Farriss and Kirk Pengilly from INXS took to the stage to present the award for Best Group.

‘Well, this is weird,’ noted Kirk, 62, as he stared out at the empty auditorium, before presenting the award to Tame Impala, who accepted virtually.

‘Thank you so much, guys. There’s still music playing. That’s cool. This means a lot to us,’ they said.

Guy then returned to the stage to present the award for Best Australian Live Act alongside host Delta Goodrem, with Amy Shark taking out the prize.

‘Thank you to all my Sharks who came to the shows,’ the 34-year-old said, before thanking everyone who worked to help make her shows happen.

She added: ‘This one’s for Team Shark. Thank you. This is awesome.’

Proving to be a big winner on the night, Amy also picked up the award for Best Pop Release, surprising presenter Sophie Monk, who didn’t realise she’d be accepting in person.

‘Oh, you’re here! Congratulations, sweetheart,’ the 40-year-old said, before giving her a congratulatory kiss on the cheek.

Amy seemed stunned by her back-to-back wins: ‘Thank you so much. Oh my God, OK. Woah, woah. OK, isn’t tonight full of surprises.’

After winning last year’s Breakthrough Artist award, Tones and I returned to present the award to this year’s winner, Lime Cordiale.

‘This is our first ARIA win, so this is kind of… I don’t really know what to do here. How’s the audience? How are you going?’ they joked, talking to the empty room.

More to come.
