I’m A Celebrity 2020: Vernon Kay is sent sweet letter from Tess Daly and daughters

They’re adapting to the new dynamic around camp now that the eliminations have started after two weeks in the Welsh Castle.

And Vernon Kay got to enjoy a reminder of home during Sunday’s episode when he received a sweet letter from wife Tess Daly, 51, and their daughters Phoebe, 16, and Amber, 11.

Victoria Derbyshire read out the touching note, which revealed that the radio star’s family were very proud of him and came with some giant chocolate buttons.

So sweet:  Vernon Kay received a touching letter from wife Tess Daly and their two daughters Phoebe, 16, and Amber, 11, during Sunday’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

The father-of-two appeared very pleased with his letter and gift as the camp all shared their tokens together.

The letter from Strictly host Tess read: ‘Remember you said you just wanted to make your girls proud, well we’re watching every night and we are so proud!

He said in the Telegraph: ‘Thank you for this and the chocolate buttons, it means so much.’

In order to get the treats the camp had to work together in teams to complete tasks and earn keys which would unlock boxes with either stars for dinner or gifts.

Vernon worked with Ruthie Henshall, Mo Farah and Victoria as they attempted to bring some cheer to the camp and provide the goods.

To be in with the chance of a treat, the foursome had to face a raised wobble board and work in pairs to carefully manoeuvre keys safely down the board.

Any keys that fell off were lost and they had several chances per pair to win up to 5 keys.

Mo and Ruthie managed to get two keys, but Victoria and Vernon had a little more luck and got all five of their keys meaning the team scored 7 out of 10.

Victoria said: ‘Vernon was an absolute legend. He was so patient.’

While Vernon added: ‘That’s probably the most difficult fairground game I’ve ever played.’

After all the campmates had completed their tasks they took it in turns to take a key from the bucket to open a box.

A star equalled a meal for camp, if they found a treat they had to nominate who would receive theirs. An empty box meant no win and that key was lost.

Among the nominations AJ Pritchard earmarked treats for Mo and then to Jessica Plummer and Russell Watson nominated one to Ruthie.

Giovanna Fletcher got emotional during the challenge, with the mother-of-two not ending up receiving a treat from her family alongside AJ and Jordan North.

Vernon said in the Telegraph: ‘As the process went on and the boxes became fewer and the treats from home became less she realised that there was an opportunity to not be given a message from loved ones and that’s when it really hit home.’

The treats finally arrived after dinner, mutton, was served. Victoria read out Vernon’s note from Tess and their girls.

The radio host then read a note out for Mo from his family and the athlete’s treat was jelly sweets.

While Shane Richie got to read a note for Ruthie from her daughters and her treat was cheese and onion crisps.

Beverley Callard also received a note and cookies from her husband while Shane was sent chocolate by his wife.

Vernon has often spoken about his family during his stint in the I’m A Celebrity Castle, with him revealing how he proposed to Tess on Saturday’s show.

The presenter recalled how he planned a secret Christmas Day engagement to the Strictly host, 51, and her ‘face just lit up’.

Talking to his campmates about one of his happiest memories, Vernon said: ‘I think it was when I proposed to Tess. On Christmas Day it was, it was the last present under the tree.

‘While she was so consumed by the ring, I was on one knee. She was like that [pulls shocked face]. It was awesome.’

He later added in the Telegraph: ‘When she opened it up, her face just lit up!’

It comes after Vernon revealed earlier this month that he and wife of 17 years Tess secretly renewed their wedding vows five years ago.

The presenting duo originally wed in 2003 and have two daughters – Phoebe, 16, and Amber, 11 – and Vernon talked about his marriage on a recent episode of I’m A Celeb.
