Studio 10 host Sarah Harris has bravely revealed she suffered a devastating miscarriage back in 2015. The 39-year-old was pregnant with twins, but lost one of the babies before going on to welcome her son Paul in December that year

‘I started bleeding really heavily,’ Sarah told The Australian Women’s Weekly in an interview this week.

‘I’d only just moved house and I’d been lifting heavy boxes and I thought, “I caused this”, which of course is not true.’

Sarah explained that she booked in for a D&C (a dilation and curettage) and didn’t even know she was pregnant with twins until the sonographer heard a heartbeat and asked if she had ‘twins in the family.’

What is Vanishing Twin Syndrome?

-According to Healthline.com, Vanishing Twin Syndrome is when multiple embryos develop in the uterus

-But soon one of the embryos can’t be detected

-Symptoms include cramping and bleeding

-Diagnosed during an ultrasound

-The unborn twin, if lost in the very early stages, is usually ‘reabsorbed into your placenta and into the baby that you’re carrying’

‘There were two sacs and one of the babies was lost and one of them was okay – and that baby was Paul,’ Sarah explained.

Sarah welcomed son Paul, now four, in December 2015, and then welcomed another son Harry, two, in December 2017.

She told AWW she suffered postnatal depression after the birth of both babies, and her friend and former Studio 10 co-host, Jessica Rowe, helped her through the ordeal.

Jessica also suffered from postnatal depression following the births of her own children.

She told Sarah to get professional help and tried her best to comfort her and support her as a friend.

In September, Sarah spoke about what motherhood is really like in the first few months after giving birth.

She shared a private photo of herself asleep while breastfeeding her second child Harry, during a segment on Studio 10.

‘How good do my boobs look?’ Sarah laughed as she introduced the photo on the show.

She said she wanted to share the image to normalise the reality of motherhood so that new mothers wouldn’t compare themselves to unrealistic celebrity mums in the media.

‘It’s such exhausting time,’ she said.

‘You just can’t compare yourself,’ she added. ‘Because everyone does it in their own time and your body heals at different rates depending on your delivery or the weight of your child.’

The presenter then revealed she suffered from some mild postnatal depression after welcoming her first child, Paul.

In an interview back in December last year, Sarah admitted that she ‘couldn’t handle’ having two children at first and was unsure about having a third.

‘It [managing two sons] was really hard for me, and I wonder if I’ll upset the equilibrium by having a third’, she told TV Week at the time.

‘As soon as Harry came out, I said to my obstetrician ‘I’ll see you in a couple of years’, I love the baby smell and that newborn phase – and I actually enjoyed labour, which is really weird,’ she explained.

Sarah also revealed becoming a mother took a toll on her physically, and suffered from back problems for ‘a long time’.

Despite having reservations, she admitted she would go through the process all over again and will ‘leave it up to the universe’ to decide if she will have a third child.

‘I’m waiting to feel like I’m done, and I don’t think that’s quite the case yet,’ she said.
