Robbie Williams says that he ‘won’t have it that he’s any good’

Robbie Williams has said his self-loathing has become less intense over the years, but claims that he ‘won’t have it that I’m any good’.

The singer, 46, says he has a constant negative internal monologue which he refers to as ‘Radio Rob’.

The Rock DJ hitmaker said even though he hates himself, he thinks he deserves to be content.

In an interview with The Times Saturday Review, Robbie said he believes his insecurities date back to his time in boyband Take That.

‘Even though I hate myself I think I deserve to be content. I don’t think it dictates and causes me misery and gives me a prison-like quality between my ears… but I won’t have it that I’m any good,’ he said.

‘It stems from my peers not liking me because of the band that I was in. They were the cool crew, the people that I wanted to be. But they didn’t like me, and that hurt.

‘And then I had to figure out why it hurt so much, why everything hurt so much. I’m sure that if the cool crew did love me and I did ‘quote unquote’ worthy music then I’d be a tyrant.’

Now he is more concerned with what his and wife Ayda Field’s four children – Theodora, nine, Charlton, six, Coco, two, and Beau, nine months – think about him.

Robbie also admitted he previously didn’t want children and spent the first two years of Theodora’s life terrified of messing up.

However, when she started speaking to him, he wanted as many of the ‘little things’ as he could.

It comes after the singer took to Instagram Live on Thursday and revealed he is forming a new band, 25 years after quitting Take That.

He told fans he is teaming up with Australian songwriters and producers Flynn Francis and Tim Metcalfe, for what he branded a ‘passion project’.

Robbie also unveiled plans to create new music venues and art galleries around the world where the group will perform, and where he can DJ.

Robbie told his followers: ‘Little project that I’ve got going on with a couple of friends of mine, Flynn Francis and Tim Metcalfe. We’re forming a band everyone.

‘I’ve got songs coming out that will not be under the name of Robbie Williams. I’m gonna do this thing with my friends – form a band!’

But, instead of touring in the traditional way, the group will perform in new music venues and art spaces, which Robbie plans to open around the world.

He explained: ‘What I’m gonna do is rent a space, put my art in there. During the day it’ll be a gallery.

‘Then at night I shall be DJing and it will be a musical venue, something the old folks will call a rave.

‘I’ll be on the espressos. Oh yes I will. Quadruple espresso. Doing it old school.

‘I’m very, very excited about this. I want to do it in Berlin. I also want to do it in Tokyo. I wanna do it in several places. Be fun won’t it?

‘It’s one of them things, it’s a passion project. If something happens then great, if not, I’ve just had fun.’
