It’s been a month and a half since country music superstar Blake Shelton popped the question to Gwen Stefani, which she almost missed out on altogether.
Stefani, 51, and Shelton, 44, announced their engagement on October 27, at Shelton’s ranch in Tishomingo, Oklahoma.
Stefani reunited with another star of The Voice, Kelly Clarkson, on her talk show Tuesday (via The Kelly Clarkson Show YouTube), where she revealed she was actually trying to get out of the trip.

When Clarkson asked her if she would tell the audience how it happened, Stefani began, ‘I had no idea, obviously. In fact, I was trying to get out of going to Oklahoma because it was getting too complicated with COVID and the family.
‘I was like, ‘I think we should just cancel the trip.’ It was one of those. Then we got it together and we ended up going. [Our family] was all there,’ she said.
Stefani added that Shelton’s sister and her family were there, along her kids, her brother and his family, stating they’re, ‘always all there.’

‘We’re building a house there. We were going to go from one part of the land to the other part of the land to go to see the house. And meanwhile, Blake had had this ring ready to go for a couple of weeks and nobody knew,” she said.
She did add that the only person who did know was Stefani’s father, because he was at her birthday gathering in early October, and Shelton showed him the ring.
She added that when they all got there, everybody wanted to get back for various reasons, before Blake made his move.

‘My son was sitting right by this fireplace and Blake was basically on his knees to do a fire and he goes, ‘Hey can you look in that cabinet and get a firestarter?” I look in and see a ring in a box and go, “Ahhh What? Are you serious?”‘
She added that everyone came running when they heard the screaming, but unlike many proposals these days, there was no video, only a photo her future sister-in-law took.
‘It was a pretty magical moment,’ Stefani added, while Clarkson thought it was ‘cool’ that it wasn’t on video.

The couple had been dating for five years before Blake popped the question in October, with sources telling US Weekly the wedding will happen on the Oklahoma ranch.
‘Blake built a chapel on the grounds of his Oklahoma ranch. He did it himself with help. It’s really a tribute to their love. They are going to get married in the chapel, most likely early next year,’ a source told Us Weekly magazine.
No wedding date has been confirmed at this time, though.
