Mariah Carey hilariously tells a fan she does ‘not’ approve of his wonky Christmas tree ornament

It’s been over 25 years since Mariah Carey released her holiday mega-hit, All I Want for Christmas is You, but her status as festive season’s icon has only grown over time.

And, on Thursday, one of the star’s loyal fans gushed about receiving an ornament, made to resemble her 1994 holiday album Merry Christmas, from his spouse.

‘My husband and I exchange ornaments every year and this year he got me @MariahCarey which is very festive!’ tweeted CNN’s Kyle Blaine, who also shared a snap of the decoration hanging on his Christmas tree.

Upon coming across the post, the 50-year-old Queen of Christmas frowned upon the ornament’s design, which was distorted on one side and had a wonky left eye.

‘This is… not approved,’ she replied with her trademark sass. ‘(But it’s the thought that counts).’

Apart from the manufacturing defect, the Mariah Carey-inspired trimming captured the singer’s iconic Santa bodysuit ensemble and pose kneeling into a pile of snow.

Her hilarious tweet immediately lit up on social media as more than 34,000 people liked it and 3,000 retweeted on Thursday morning.

The hit, first released on the singer’s 1994 Merry Christmas album, officially topped the UK charts on Sunday and on Monday, Billboard announced the track had returned to the top of the US singles chart.

Not only that, but the song started 2020 at number one in America, reaching the top spot for the first time in December 2019 and staying there for three weeks, and now looks certain to end the year the same way.

Mariah tweeted her excitement and thanks to her fans on Monday after posting a festive video to Instagram hours earlier, acknowledging her UK chart success.

‘WOW! I truly wasn’t expecting this at all!!’ Maria tweeted.

‘Eternally grateful for the enduring success of this song. “I don’t want a lot for Christmas…” just wishing for a bit more JOY and some holiday spirit for all, especially this year. Merry Christmas! Love, MC.’

‘Christmas’ also ties the most time at number one among holiday hits in the Billboard chart’s 62-year history.

In December 2019, Amazon Music posted a short video in which Mariah explained why the festive season is so important to her and how she created her famous holiday song.

‘I have such an emotional connection to Christmas,’ she shared. ‘And it wasn’t about the gifts.’

‘It was just about the hopefulness of the holiday season and just feeling, like, in the spirit, and the need for me to express myself and make a song that made me feel happy at the holidays,’ she said.

‘It’s grown in popularity over the years, and that’s the thing that’s amazing to me about this song,’ she added.
