Chezzi Denyer breaks silence on Grant’s drinking confession on IAC

He candidly admitted to having issues with alcohol and drinking in excess to cope with anxiety on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! last week. 

And now Grant Denyer’s wife Chezzi has broken her silence on the TV star’s comments. 

Appearing on Studio 10 on Tuesday, heavily pregnant Chezzi had nothing but praise for her spouse. 

‘I really liked it,’ Chezzi said of his admission. 

‘It is something that we have spoken about a number of times, but I really felt the penny dropped when he was talking to Mel [Buttle] during that conversation.’ 

Chezzi admitted that she was a little nervous about what the soon-to-be father of three would say while in the jungle. 

‘I am a little bit nervous because I don’t know what he will say. I think it is great.’ 

She went on to applaud the show for being a platform for the campmates to have these kinds of conversations. 

Chezzi added that she had encouraged Grant to go on the show and admitted he is an emotional person. 

‘I keep telling everyone he is the worst candidate to go into the jungle. One of the reasons is because he is very sensitive. He is very emotional,’ she said. 

‘You know, he is also very shy. He is a germaphobe. He can’t eat most things, he can’t even change [soiled] nappies.’  

Last Tuesday, Grant told his fellow campmates he felt anxious and drank to excess prior to appearing on the show.

‘I’d never put two and two together, and I’ve been asking myself this question for, far out. Five years? Do I have a problem? And I think the answer is, I do,’ he confessed.   

‘And it was coming in here, watching how I couldn’t control the pace at which I was drinking, because I do everything fast.

‘[I realised] I was trying to stem the fear and anxiety of what we were about to do and I thought, I think I do that every week.’

Grant said he didn’t realise he had a problem, or signs he had a problem, until he went on the show. 

‘I think I’ve only just realised from coming in here that I drink to lessen anxiety, which I didn’t really realise I had until I saw the pattern of fear coming into here and the anticipation of a new gig and will I fit in? Is it gonna be fun?’ he said. 

‘Am I gonna be able to be successful in the challenges? Can I be funny for that long? All of these things, and I just started going like this [mimics drinking].’ 

Grant went on to tell The Daily Telegraph that he was going to cut the booze out of his life for good.   

‘I want to push the button on cancelling it (alcohol) altogether and see how I go,’ the 43-year-old told the publication last week.
