Britney Spears’ former manager insists she DOESN’T need a conservatorship

Britney Spears’ former manager Kim Kaiman has insisted the singer doesn’t need a  conservatorship as she weighed in on the legal battle surrounding the subject.

Kim, 51, appeared on Thursday’s episode of This Morning to discuss the controversial documentary Framing Britney Spears, which follows her meteoric rise to stardom.

The documentary also focuses on 39-year-old Britney’s conservatorship battle with her father Jamie Spears – which Kim insisted she doesn’t need as a ‘grown woman’.

When quizzed on whether Britney ‘needs’ to be under a conservatorship, Kim said: ‘Absolutely not I think at this point she’s a 39 year old woman she’s not a child…’

Although Jamie, 68, no longer holds the conservatorship over Britney’s ‘person’ he does over estate thereby restricting her ability to make financial decisions.

However Kim admitted she does not believe he is the best person for the role, and said: ‘In fact when you talk about a conservatorship she doesn’t need a conservator what she needs is a good business manager, which Jamie Spears isn’t at all…’ 

The former Jive executive, who appears in the new documentary as an interviewee, also discussed the comments she made on the programme about Jamie allegedly saying his daughter was going to be ‘so rich she’d buy him a boat’.

During her appearance on Framing Britney Spears, Kim said: ‘The only thing Jamie ever said to me was: “My daughter is going to be so rich she’s going to buy me a boat,” That’s all I’m gonna say about Jamie.’

She also said that it was Britney’s mother Lynn who ‘supported’ her at this time.

Touching on the comment during her This Morning interview, Kim said: ‘When he said that this was Britney’s first headline tour and this was a long ways away from her having a family and being hounded by the paparazzi.

Offering her opinion on the tone of his comment, she said: ‘It was before she got famous the way it was said to me wasn’t in a supportive way, that is not the tone in which it was said to me, I can’t say it was a positive thing he said.

‘It was not a positive thing, and frankly he wasn’t involved in the building of her career. To have him say that shows he was only focused on how much money she’d make him.’

Following the release of the documentary, Britney’s boyfriend Sam Asghari has called her father a ‘total d***’ in an impassioned post online.

Kim confessed she thinks that the comment was made an in an ’emotional moment’, but otherwise believes Sam to be a ‘positive force’ in the star’s life.  

She said: ‘I’ve never met Sam but it was probably said in a very emotional moment, but all I can say based on what I see is he is a very positive force in her life, she looks absolutely beautiful and healthy, I’ve noticed from her Instagram she’s been very positive and very forward thinking this is the Britney who is always been there. 

Kim added: ‘She’s suffered great tragedy a lot of arrows from not only the paparazzi, the breakdown of her marriage and not being able to see her children, any woman who has children and not being able to see them, wouldn’t you have stress wouldn’t you have a breakdown?’

Britney has also appeared to break her silence following the release of the insight into her life, and insisted she is taking time out to enjoy a ‘normal life’.  

Speaking on Britney’s statement, Kim said: ‘I think that statement right then and there just proves it she is taking time to have a normal life this isn’t something she shad since she was nine years old.

‘When she signed onto the company when I met her she’d experienced Star Search, The Mickey Mouse Club, she’d been on an off Broadway musicals, it’s almost like the story of Michael Jackson, her childhood wasn’t like a normal person… 

‘She’s worked for it at the very least, let her reap the rewards of the way she has been doing this.’

Britney spoke up via Instagram on Wednesday as she encouraged her fanbase to spread ‘kindness’ amid the online uproar surrounding the documentary.

She captioned the post: ‘KINDNESS, AMERICA …. PASS IT ON!!!!’

She also included a picture suggesting that people ‘need to care less about whether our children are academically gifted and more about whether they sit with the lonely kid in the cafeteria.’

The post came just one day after she used Twitter to seemingly suggest that there is much more to her story than what Framing Britney Spears provided – and warned that people do not know everything about ‘the actual person living behind the lens.’

Although she did not reference it specifically, Britney sent a clear message about its content, telling fans: ‘Remember, no matter what we think we know about a person’s life it is nothing compared to the actual person living behind the lens.’

She appeared to address reports that she is refusing to work until her father Jamie is removed as her conservator, insisting in a second tweet that while she loves being on stage, she is ‘taking the time to learn and be normal’ and to ‘enjoy the basics of everyday life’.

Along with her words, Britney shared a throwback video of herself performing Toxic at the 2018 New Years Rockin’ Eve ball drop in Times Square, writing: ‘Can’t believe this performance of Toxic is from 3 years ago!!!’

‘I’ll always love being on stage …. but I am taking the time to learn and be a normal person ….. I love simply enjoying the basics of every day life!!!’

Though she made it seem like her hiatus was strictly personal, Britney’s lawyers have previously said she refuses to perform while dad Jamie is ‘in charge’ of her career through her conservatorship.

Britney’s last live performance took place on October 21, 2018, ten months after the end of a year-long residency in Las Vegas.

She was due to start a second residency at the Park Theater in the Park MGM Hotel and Casino in February 2019, however the singer canceled all performances just a few weeks before the first date, after her father nearly died from a ruptured colon.

At the time, Britney stated that she was taking an ‘indefinite work hiatus’, explaining that she wanted to ‘dedicate her focus and energy to [caring] for her family’.

‘We have a very special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me,’ she concluded.

However, in November, her lawyer told the court that Britney is scared of her father and is refusing to perform again until he is removed as her conservator.

She has asked that his co-conservator, Jodi Montgomery, her longtime care manager, become her permanent conservator.

‘My client has informed me that she is afraid of her father,’ Britney’s attorney Samuel D. Ingham told a judge during a hearing to determine whether another conservator should be appointed.

‘She also stated that she will not perform as long as her father is in charge of her career.’

The judge declined the request for Jamie’s removal from the conservatorship but said she would consider it in the future.

Jamie, has been Britney’s conservator since 2008, when he took control of her business affairs amid fears for her mental health.

In September 2019, he temporarily relinquished his powers to Montgomery due to ‘personal health reasons’ but he remains in control of her finances.

The singer’s conservatorship struggle is now under fresh scrutiny following the release of the New York Times-produced documentary, which was released on Friday and sparked much public outcry about Britney’s situation.

The film explored her meteoric rise to fame, treatment by the media, very public struggles with mental health and ongoing conservatorship battle with father.

It was directed by Samantha Stark and appeared on Hulu before being televised on FX that same evening.

Britney’s ex-husband Kevin Federline – with whom she has two sons Sean, 15, and Jayden, 14 – weighed into the controversy on Tuesday evening, insisting that he has ‘no involvement’ in the singer’s conservatorship battle, but suggesting that he supports Montgomery being named as her sole conservator.

In a statement shared with E! News, Federline’s lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan said that his client believes Montgomery – who has been acting alongside Jamie has Britney’s co-conservator, and whom the pop star wants to take over the role completely – is doing ‘an admirable job’

‘Kevin has no involvement with regard to Britney and her attorneys asking to remove Jamie as conservator,’ Kaplan stated. ‘He has stayed out of the conservatorship issues.

‘He thinks Jodi Montgomery has done an admirable job and he has no other position to state with regard to the conservatorship.’

Britney’s boyfriend Sam also had something to say in the wake of the documentary’s premiere, branding Jamie a ‘total d**k’ in a furious post shared to his Instagram Stories on Tuesday.

He wrote: ‘Now it’s important for people to understand that I have zero respect for someone trying to control our relationship and constantly throwing obstacles our way,’ referring to Spears’ dad.

‘In my opinion Jamie is a total d**k. I won’t be going into details because I’ve always respected our privacy but at the same time I didn’t come to this country to not be able to express my opinion and freedom.’

The Iranian fitness model added an animated ‘mic drop’ emoji.

A source told Page Six that Britney is yet to watch the documentary and said: ‘As of Sunday, Britney hadn’t watched the documentary, but she’s aware of it. She had not seen any of it.’

Britney hasn’t watched the doc, as it could irritate her amid her ongoing legal battles with her father, the source said – although the singer may well have watched it since the insider spoke out.

They said: ‘She’s chosen not to watch it because she’s fed up with the conservatorship. She feels there is a hole missing in her life because of the conservatorship and that she won’t be able to live a normal life until that’s over. 

‘She knows it’s a battle for her whole life.’
