HER MAJESTY

by Christopher Warwick, edited by Reuel Golden (Taschen £50)

Her Majesty by Christopher Warwick provides a fascinating photographic history of the Queen’s long and remarkable life

This treasure trove of a tome provides a fascinating photographic history of the Queen’s long and remarkable life. There’s young ‘Lilibet’ pictured with ‘us four’, as her father affectionately called their close-knit family, and as Queen at her Coronation, all 2,868 of the Imperial State Crown’s diamonds glittering. It’s tempting to think her incapable of being the subject of a bad photograph, but Cecil Beaton would disagree. He captured this image of the Queen in 1955 to mark her upcoming trip to Nigeria, but somewhat cuttingly noted that ‘she looked cold’ and ‘not her best’. Claws out, Cecil!
