McFly fans left raging after band’s performance is talked over on Saturday Night Takeaway

McFly fans were left unimpressed after trying to watch the band’s performance on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway this weekend.

The group – Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Pointer and Harry Judd – took to the stage for the End Of The Show Show and played their catchy new song Happiness.

However, some viewers were left raging after co-host Stephen Mulhern chatted over the lyrics for a funny sketch involving McFly and Ant and Dec swapping places in a box which seemed to be a virtual living room on the stage.

Oh dear: McFly fans were left unimpressed after trying to watch the band’s performance on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway this weekend (pictured singing on the ITV show)

In the sketch, the band were first seen performing from inside a set while Ant and Dec listened while standing on the stage.

Stephen then sneakily crept onto the stage and managed to add a door to one side of the set, letting McFly out of the box and trapping Ant and Dec inside.

McFly then relocated to another area while still singing their fun song and Stephen joked that, ‘just how it should be, you and me on a Saturday night’, leaving the other two hosts to jump against the box in an attempt to escape.

Although found amusing by many, some McFly fans were not so pleased with the performance and shared their opinions on Twitter.

One fan penned: ‘I’ve seen many episodes of Saturday night takeaway and a lot of the acts on the end of the show show actually gets to perform and you can hear the acts singing. But last night with McFLY, they were talking over the singing. That’s very disrespectful and not fair.’

While another added: ‘Honestly don’t know how anyone could watch McFly’s performance on Saturday Night Takeaway and not see how utterly disrespectful it was towards the band.’

And a third said: ‘waited all week to see mcfly on Saturday night takeaway ….. what the heck was that we saw them for like 30 seconds.’

However other viewers didn’t see what the problem was, praising ITV’s entertaining segment with the band and presenters.

One happy watcher wrote: ‘The amount of tweets I have seen about Mcfly being on Saturday Night Takeaway is absolutely ridiculous, instead of complaining that they were hardly shown just be grateful they were on the show and that they were amazing. The End of the show show was incredible and so funny !!!’

Elsewhere on Saturday’s show, Ant and Dec revealed they were behind Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield’s odd outbursts on Monday’s This Morning.

The duo, both 45, revealed on Saturday Night Takeaway that they organised the hilarious show prank by asking fellow presenter Stephen to hold up signs with words that Holly and Phillip had to say during the broadcast.

The bizarre segment earlier this week saw Holly share that she was ‘bursting for a wee’, before she and Phillip constantly chatted over chef James Martin as he attempted to present his cooking segment.

But on Saturday Night Takeaway, viewers were shown how cameras followed Stephen as he snuck behind the scenes during filming to disrupt the show.

Stephen held up a series of white signs with various random phrases and tasks written on them that Holly and Phil had to try and incorporate into their scripts.

One of the tasks the pair had to complete was ‘pretending to have cramp’ which Phil then acted out, prompting Holly to say: ‘You have a cramp? Salt, I’ll walk it off and get some salt.’

Leaping from her chair on the socially-distanced set, she then wandered from one end of the studio to the kitchen, before saying: ‘I can’t find it! Can’t find the salt!’

Other phrases they had to include in their scripts were ‘don’t mug me off’, ‘flaps’ and ‘big bush’.

The instructions from Stephen sparked chaos on set and viewers quite rightly took to Twitter in droves to share their view that their actions were all part of a ‘prank’ coordinated by Ant and Dec.

Stephen had also been behind the scenes of Lorraine, Good Morning Britain and Loose Women on Monday with his signs to cause even more chaos and had to chose which was the funniest show to win the ‘On Air Dares’ trophy.
