Radio host Kyle Sandilands slams ‘hideous’ Archibald portrait of him

Kyle Sandilands has slammed a portrait of him that was submitted for the Archibald Prize in 2008.

The 50-year-old described the picture as ‘hideous’ while interviewing Rachel Griffiths about her new ABC series Finding the Archibald on The Kyle and Jackie O show. 

‘I’ve been painted for an Archibald Prize before. Didn’t win it, mind you,’ he said.

Kyle continued: ‘It’s hideous. They painted me like a king from the olden days.’

‘When I saw the painting, the guy was like, “this will win me the Archibald”. I knew immediately, no it won’t.’

Rachel agreed Kyle’s portrait was ‘never a contender’, adding: ‘I’ve seen the painting of you. It’s pretty unspeakably bad.’

The artwork, which depicts Kyle as Henry VIII, was created by Arith Mohamad and was entered in the 2008 Archibald Prize.

However, artist Del Kathryn Barton won the $50,000 prize that year for her self portrait with her children Kell and Arella.

It comes after Kyle celebrated his 50th birthday with a cruise of Sydney Harbour on board a luxurious $3000-per-hour superyacht on Saturday.

Among the many guests who boarded the yacht was his longtime co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson.

Also spotted making his way to the party were Guy Sebastian as well as retired boxer Jeff Fenech, his wife Suzee and their daughter Kayla.

The vessel was decorated with an abundance of gold and black balloons, and was branded with ‘King Kyle 50’ on both sides of the ship.
