Lisa Wilkinson snaps at Twitter troll who says her husband Peter FitzSimons was ‘still drinking’ even though he’s been sober for seven years

Lisa Wilkinson has shut down a Twitter troll for suggesting her husband Peter FitSimons was ‘secretly drinking’ despite claiming to be sober for seven years.

The Project host, 61, was left unimpressed on Tuesday after receiving an unwelcome response to a Tweet she’d posted about her journalist husband’s 60th birthday.

‘A very happy birthday to the big fella @peter_fitzsimons who packs more into a day than I can in a year. Not quite the big celebration we were planning, but hey, life in lockdown,’ Lisa Tweeted.

The troll promptly replied: ‘Congrats Fitzy…don’t tell Lisa you are still having a cheaky [sic] bottle of red now and again…Mosman local… #auspol.’

Lisa, who has been married to Peter for over three decades, snapped back: ‘Proud to say @Peter_Fitz hasn’t had a drink for almost seven years.’

‘By his own admission he’s a better man without it. Can I suggest you try it sometime?’ she added.

Lisa has often publicly addressed her husband’s sobriety.

In 2017, she revealed on the Today show that her marriage had never been better since Peter quit the booze.

‘My husband gave up drinking three years ago and he has never been more fun to be married to,’ Lisa said at the time.

In 2016, she also told the Australian’s Women Weekly that alcohol had once cast a shadow over their marriage.

‘He stopped caring when he had alcohol. He wouldn’t care too much what he’d say to me, he’d be careless he might upset me – and it actually takes a lot to upset me,’ Lisa told the publication.

The article claimed that Lisa would often come home in the afternoon to find her husband sleeping off alcohol on the couch.

Lisa revealed it was a friend’s comment that inevitably led to Peter making a change for the better.

After noticing that he was the only one to polish off a bottle of wine at lunch, Peter decided to quit drinking alcohol and sugar and begin exercising.

He went on to drop a whopping 40kg in the space of two years.
