  • Woman claims she’s seen accidents ‘time and time again’ due to the barriers
  • The post backfired after Facebook users criticise drivers who can’t see barriers

New concrete barriers in a Coles car park are causing fury after several vehicles were badly damaged by driving into them.

Car park owner Banco Group installed the kerb-like barriers in the Coles Victoria Street in Ballarat click and collect bays to prevent cars going too far in.

One irate shopper teed off about the barrier on Facebook, sharing a photo of another customer’s car with the bumper bar sheared off.

A Victorian motorist has claimed the concrete barriers in a Coles carpark are a ‘nuisance hazard’ sparking public backlash

‘They do extensive damage to front bumpers before tyres touch or get stopped by them,’ she wrote, claiming to have seen numerous accidents.

‘They are outdated and not suitable in car parks, no warnings around to notify customers of potential damage.

‘A young girl this morning parked at the click and collect park only to have her whole front bumper ripped off from the concrete [barrier].

‘I have seen this time and time again, it’s costly, inconvenient, and could be prevented.’

However, the woman was criticised in the comments to her post for complaining about a common car park feature that was easy to see and avoid.

‘Clearly people need to have a better understanding of their cars and be more aware of their surroundings,’ one wrote.

‘Never had an issue with them and my car is a standard.’

The woman wrote in response: ‘It’s happed to many cars of standard make. It’s where you park your car, you can’t avoid it’ she wrote.

Banco Group was contacted for comment.
