A rapper is being hunted by police after a driver reversed into a police car and sped off into oncoming traffic with a baby on the backseat.

Aisa Khan Sampson-Spencer, also known as Merky Ace, is thought to have been the motorist stopped by officers while parked in a black BMW X1 near a McDonalds drive-thru in Ilford, east London.

The 29-year-old grime star is said to have suddenly turned on the ignition and reversed his 4×4, striking the police vehicle while talking to officers.

The driver, believed to be Sampson-Spencer, who released his debut album in 2018, then mounted the pavement and drove off heading towards oncoming traffic, Scotland Yard said.

Police said they went to speak to the motorist just after 7.15pm on April 29 because the BMW was spotted with false number plates.

When the driver suddenly started the ignition and headed west along the eastbound carriageway of the A12 Eastern Avenue, there was a baby inside the vehicle, police said.

Met Police said Sampson-Spencer, who is thought to be the man captured on the officer’s body worn cameras, was wearing a black flat cap, brown-framed glasses and a dark blue padded gilet over a black long sleeved top with Nike written down the sleeves in white.

The suspect was described as having short hair, neatly trimmed facial hair, and spoke with a ‘London accent’, according to police.

Police said Sampson-Spencer and the vehicle both have links to Croydon and Greenwich in south London as well as Barking and Dagenham, east London.

Today the Met Police launched an appeal for information after the alleged dangerous driving and issued a still image of the driver seen in the officer’s body worn video. Officers also released an image of Sampson-Spencer.
