Sam and Luke Burgess reveal what prompted them to start their men’s fashion label 4B – and how they’ve incorporated their late father Mark into their designs

Sam and Luke Burgess’s successful men’s fashion label 4B is about to celebrate its first anniversary.

And on Thursday, the rugby league brothers revealed the inspiration and family backstory behind the activewear range to The Daily Telegraph.

The fashionable duo told the publication they always discussed ‘doing business together’ in their post-football careers.

Brothers in business: Rugby League brothers Sam, 32, and Luke Burgess, 34, have revealed the inspiration and backstory behind their men’s fashion label 4B

The inception for their idea came during a family get together in 2016 with their twin brothers George and Thomas, who also play rugby league.

‘We’ve always taken a bit of an interest in fashion, so we thought it would be a great way to keep that connection and be able to have a business that we can build together,’ said Luke, 34.

Since retiring from football, Sam, 32, and Luke are devoting more energy to their brand, with Luke working on the 4B label full time.

Sam has been kept busy in the meantime, recently starring in the upcoming Channel Seven reality series SAS Australia.

The brothers go on to explain that their clothing line is accommodating to larger men as they ‘always struggled to find stuff that fits’ when they tried on clothes.

‘With all of us having quite large legs, it is quite hard to find decent shorts that fit well so we based it around that,’ Luke continues.

The label is also personally linked to the Burgess’ late father, Mark.

Mark, who was also a former football player, passed away of motor neurone disease in 2007 at the age of 46.

4B uses Mark’s name on a slogan printed on the fashion line’s sleeve, which reads, ‘Leave your mark. Positivity is at the heart of 4B. We love to inspire people through our family values. Leading from the front and never taking a backwards step. Make it yours.’
