Mohamed Salah’s goalscoring ability at Liverpool is ‘becoming ridiculous’, says Peter Crouch… after Egyptian’s double in Porto off the back of becoming fastest Reds player to 100 Premier League goals

Peter Crouch has lauded Mohamed Salah’s goalscoring ability as ‘incredible’ after the Liverpool forward’s record-breaking exploits over the past week.

At the weekend, Salah became the fastest player to net 100 goals for the club in the Premier League, and dazzled again in their 5-1 Champions League win over Porto.

The flurry of goals has marked a stunning start to the season for the superstar, and Crouch was effusive in his praise during his analysis last night.

Mohamed Salah’s goalscoring ability has been labelled as ‘ridiculous’ by pundit Peter Crouch

Salah’s century of goals in 151 appearances in the top-flight has seen him better Alan Shearer, Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero and Thierry Henry in reaching the milestone.

This fact left Crouch awestruck and the pundit, speaking on BT Sport, insisted the rate in which Salah is finding the net is ‘becoming ridiculous’.

‘That statistic, the people that are ahead of him – Shearer, Kane, Aguero – the company he’s in is just so esteemed, we run out of superlatives really,’ he said.

‘He’s just carried on where he left off last season. He had a difficult season last year, but he’s still banging in goals and finishing top goal-scorer. It really is incredible.

‘He can score all types of goals. He’s one of those players that you know what’s going to happen, you know he wants to get on his left foot but you cannot stop him.

‘The amount of goals he’s getting is becoming ridiculous.’

In total, Salah has already scored five goals in the Premier League from just six games, and also kickstarted his account in Europe with the brace in Portugal.

He delivered an all-round performance against Porto and took his two goals in ruthless fashion, with both coming from neat finishes inside the penalty area.

The first came after a poor parry from goalkeeper Diogo Carlos, which allowed Salah to sweep into the empty net and spark the emphatic rout for his team.

With Liverpool in cruise control, Salah later tucked in their third goal, picking up Curtis Jones’ pass across the box and sliding beyond the advancing stopper.

After the final whistle, boss Jurgen Klopp saluted the ‘wonderful’ football on display from his side, but is remaining grounded despite their perfect start in Group B.

Roberto Firmino matched Salah’s tally with a brace of his own, while Sadio Mane also tucked home from close range to help add gloss to the score line.

‘First and foremost the most important thing is the result,’ Klopp told BT Sport. ‘It is a massive one away at Porto. Winning, and the way we won, makes it better.

‘It was good in lots of moments. We could see Porto watched our last game at Brentford. They started direct.

‘I wanted to get it sorted on the pitch and that’s what we did step-by-step.

‘We scored maybe not the most amazing goals but important ones in the first half. In the second-half we controlled the game.’
