Traumatised neighbours have recalled racing to the home to help, with brave local Mark Salem using towels to apply pressure to Mr Blewitt’s spurting wound.

‘The doorbell rang and there was someone there saying “I need your help, I need your help”,’ Mr Salem told the Daily Telegraph.

The concerned homeowner said he quickly put his shoes on and ran to the residence to provide his assistance.

‘It was more adrenaline than anything, so I didn’t really think of what I was getting into, so it was pretty scary once I started to realise what I got into.’

Mr Salem recalled seeing Ms Wild, a registered nurse, sitting on the floor and sobbing just a few metres away from her injured partner.

A colleague of Mr Blewitt’s told the publication he had undergone surgery for his stomach wound with doctors positive he would make a full recovery.

Ms Wild was arrested and taken to the Burwood Local Police Station where she assisted police with their inquiries.

The Sydney nurse has been since been charged with one count of wound a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The 44-year-old has been refused bail and will appear at Burwood Local Court on Friday, October 1.
