  • Border data for the September, which will close out the current fiscal year, are not due out until next week


Nearly 130 migrant children sent by their parents to venture across the United States-Mexico border were stopped by U.S. Border Patrol agents.

The children were among 160 undocumented migrants encountered by officers in Arizona at the weekend.

The group had crossed the international borderline without legal documents, according to U.S. Border Patrol’s Tucson Sector acting chief agent Sabri Y. Dikman.

The large group consisted of foreign nationals from Guatemala, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua.

Dikman, who tweeted a picture of the group Sunday, said all of the migrants were transported to the sector’s Tucson center where they were processed. 

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection southwestern border data,  1,472,655 migrants, including 130,710 unaccompanied minors, have been encountered by U.S. Border Patrol agents since October 2020 – the start of the current fiscal year which concluded September 30.

Of the U.S. Border Patrol’s nine sectors, Tucson is fourth with 173,476 interdictions reported during that period. 

The Tucson Sector is third with 16,860 unaccompanied migrant children stopped for unlawfully crossing the United States-Mexico border.

Border numbers for the month of September are due to be released within the next week.
