Chelsea Handler made the first move on boyfriend Jo Koy after she saw him ‘in a different way’

She went Instagram official with her boyfriend Jo Koy late last month after weeks of speculation.

And on Wednesday, Chelsea Handler gushed about her love, revealing that she was the one who took their relationship from friends to more during her appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show.

Drew also pulled out a clip from Chelsea’s appearance on the show in November 2020 where the comedian – who was single at the time – had said she wanted to fall in love head over heels and that she hopes it is in her future.

Drew kicked off Chelsea’s appearance as she said: ‘Now if you don’t mind I would love to take everybody back in time to about a year ago and show you a clip and my heart warmed up re-watching it.’

The clip, which was from November 2, 2020 featured Chelsea describing what she wants in the future.

At the time Chelsea, 46, had said: ‘I do want to experience big love. Like I want to fall head over heels in love with somebody. I want to flirt and text.’

Adding: ‘I do crave that. So I hope that is in my near future… And then I just got it. I am 46 years old so any women who are out there, or men, or anyone, it doesn’t matter who you are, if you feel like it will never happen to you, I am here to tell you it will happen to you. You just have to want it to happen and manifest it to happen.’ 

Chelsea also chatted about how things went from friendship to romantic with Jo, whom she was friends with for years; the 50-year-old stand-up comic had even appeared on her former late night show on several occasions.

Ross Matthews, who serves as commentator on Drew’s show and was previously part of Chelsea’s late night show, asked her: ‘I love that you and Jo were friends for so long too and then it turned to something else. That must have just shocked you.’

Chelsea said: ‘Yeah it was literally like, I mean it wasn’t overnight, now in retrospect we were hanging out a lot, we were having long dates, like seven or eight hour dates where nothing was happening.’

‘And all of my friends were like, “What are you doing? Obviously you and Jo are a thing.” I was like, “We’re not,” but there was one day I was performing in Vegas and he came to my show in Vegas. And I’ll never forget he walked into my hotel room, and my older sister Simone was there, and he walked in and I just looked at him and saw him in a different way.’

‘And my sister was like “You are acting like a couple,” and I was like, “That’s what’s going to happen.”‘

She continued: ‘So I made the first move and he was like, “Don’t ruin this,”‘ with Jo referring to their friendship.

‘And I was like, “I’m going to ruin it. Let’s go, let’s go.”‘ she said to Drew and Ross.

Last month, Chelsea went Instagram official with Jo in a series of snaps, with one of them sharing a kiss.

She had captioned the images:  ‘He’s on tour, I’m on tour, sometimes we tour together. #VaccinatedAndHorny #FunnyIsFunny. Coming to a city near you!’

The star recently hinted at her relationship with Jo in the caption for a post that was shared to her Instagram account earlier that month, where she wrote about how she was happy to be dating someone. 

During her message, she wrote that she was ‘finally in love, with the best kind of guy there is. There is hope for everyone!’ 

She was previously linked to former Comcast Entertainment Group CEO Ted Harbert, although they went their separate ways after four years of dating, as well as rapper 50 Cent and hotelier Andrew Balazs.
