David Campbell complains about feeling ‘wonky’ after just TWO DAYS of filling in for Karl Stefanovic on the Today show


David Campbell filled in for Karl Stefanovic on the Today show this week.

And the earlier time slot has left the 48-year-old, who normally has a later start on Today Extra, out of sorts.

‘It’s much easier to do the whole week than to just do one day,’ he told the Stellar on Friday.

‘Yesterday I found that I was sort of really wonky,’ he added.

David was pleased however that with much of Australia coming out of lockdown, he at was covering ‘positive’ topics on Today, unlike his recent focus on Today Extra.  

‘It’s been great with things opening up that we have lots of positive things to talk about, because on our shows we’ve had a lot of heavy stuff,’ he explained.

David sat for Karl on Monday and Friday, and a Nine spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia that Stefanovic was on ‘planned leave’ for those two days. 

His absence from the Today couch was explained on-air by his co-host Alison who said Stefanovic is set to miss two days work due to a separate assignment. 

It is believed that Karl is away working on a top-secret 60 Minutes report.   

This comes after it was announced that David will be starring the in the stage play of North By Northwest.

The production, based on Alfred Hitchcock’s 1959 film, will be a new endeavour for the performer who revealed he hasn’t done a play since the 1990s.

‘Normally I have songs and dancing to hide behind, but holy cow, I’ve got nothing to fall back on here, it’s pretty scary,’ he said. 

Although he admitted to feeling ‘imposter syndrome’ the musical theatre star said he would harness those nerves for the play’s storyline.
