Are you saying UNO properly? Radio hosts Kyle and Jackie O debate the correct way to pronounce the popular card game

Radio hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson got into a debate on Friday about the correct way to pronounce the card game UNO.

Speaking on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, Jackie, 46, said she’d been getting heavily into playing games with her 10-year-old daughter, Kitty.

She said one of their favourite games to play at home was UNO, pronouncing the popular card game as ‘Ooo-no’.

After hearing her pronunciation of the name, Kyle, 50, interrupted and asked: ‘What do you call it?’

After Jackie repeated ‘Ooo-no’, Kyle said he’d always referred to it as ‘You-no’, but conceded he may have been wrong.

With both unsure about the correct pronunciation, Kyle and Jackie asked their producers, who admitted they didn’t know either, but called it ‘You-no’.

‘It makes more sense, “You-no”,’ said Jackie, questioning her original pronunciation.

‘But you’re more fancy and you’ve done more education. Like, you repeated Year 10, so you’re naturally more clever than us,’ added Kyle.

Unable to settle it, the radio show then put it to their fans via Instagram on Friday, admitting, ‘We’re torn’.

One listener said the correct pronunciation was ‘Ooo-no’, as in the Italian word for the number one.

‘You-no, you know,’ argued another fan.

Another thought back to their childhood and said Jackie was right: ‘In the commercial watching as a kid, it was pronounced “Ooo-no”.’
