Paris Saint-Germain have been handed a huge double injury blow after Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe missed their training session on Thursday.

The club face Lille in Ligue 1 on Friday as they bid to pull further clear at the top of the table, and a Champions League showdown with RB Leipzig awaits next week.

But it is uncertain whether superstars Messi and Mbappe will be available for both fixtures, with the duo absent with their respective problems.

PSG’s medical team said that an update would be released later on Thursday, with supporters now anxiously waiting on tenterhooks for good news.

Mbappe, meanwhile, has been sidelined with an ear, nose and throat infection, according to L’Equipe in France.

The same publication says that the striker’s availability against Lille is ‘uncertain’, while the exact reason behind Messi’s no-show has not yet been disclosed.

Marco Verratti, Sergio Ramos and Leandro Paredes have also been ruled out of the domestic game while they all continue their own recoveries.

Messi has experienced a mixed start to life in Paris after sensationally joining as a free agent from boyhood club Barcelona over the summer.

So far, he has scored three goals in the Champions League, but has not been able to get off the mark in his four Ligue 1 appearances.

His drought has not affected his side’s title defence, though, with giants PSG storming away at the summit with 28 points from just 11 games.

The stuttering form of the six-time Ballon d’Or winner has led Thierry Henry to call on PSG to work harder to get the best out of their ‘isolated’ forward.

Henry, who played alongside Messi for three years at Barcelona, believes the 34-year-old’s struggles are born out of PSG’s need to also fit in Neymar and Mbappe.

‘He [Messi] is isolated, he is on the ball less,’ he told RMC Sport.

‘I wouldn’t say he’s sad, but he’s isolated. I prefer him through the middle.

‘I’m having trouble with Leo out on the right. In the middle, he can set the tempo.

‘Something needs to be found in order to get Mbappe, Neymar and Messi to play together.’

For now, PSG remains ‘Kylian’s team’, Henry has also insisted, and the experienced former frontman says that Messi is bearing the brunt of not being the focal point.

‘Messi doesn’t speak a lot, he speaks with the ball,’ Henry went on to add.

‘For now, it’s Kylian’s team. Kylian is the one who’s making it shine most of all. The ball goes more towards him.

‘At any single moment there can only be one conductor, otherwise you can’t play at the same tempo. And in this team, there are too many conductors.’
