Police dashcam footage shows third-string Ohio State quarterback Jack Miller III failing a sobriety test and struggling to recite the alphabet for a highway patrolman in Columbus last week. 

Miller got a drunk-driving citation after being pulled over when his pickup was seen encroaching on a bike lane blocks away from the Ohio State campus early Friday morning. 

The redshirt freshman from Scottsdale, Arizona remains on the team, but has been suspended. His next court appearance will be on November 12.

Dashcam footage taken from a police officer’s vehicle shows Miller failing a series of sobriety tests after being questioned by an officer.

Most of the sobriety tests take place off camera, but Miller is seen struggling to keep his balance and say the alphabet. 

‘Do you know your alphabet,’ the officer asked before one test. ‘You’re not going to be going backwards or anything.’

Miller said ‘I think I do,’ but then, appearing to misunderstand the officer, said he’d struggle to recite the alphabet backwards.

The officer then instructed Miller to start with the letter ‘E’ and recite the alphabet from there until he gets to ‘Y.’

‘A, B, C, D,’ Miller began as he stepped forward, only to be stopped by the officer.

‘Where are you going?’ the officer asked, explaining that this test only involved saying the alphabet and did not require Miller to walk or balance himself.

‘You’re not walking,’ the officer continued. ‘You’re just going from ”E” to ”Y”’

Miller agreed, but neglected to start with the letter ‘E’ before misremembering the sequence of the alphabet.

‘A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, Y…’ Miller said.

Before the sobriety test, the officer claimed he could smell the odor of alcohol and before asking Miller to get out of the car.  

‘You’re kinda weaving through traffic, you’re gunning it,’ the officer said. ‘What’s going on?’

‘I’m sorry,’ Miller said. ‘I’m taking my boys home.’

Miller’s passengers Friday night have not been identified, but the quarterback is heard saying ‘we’re all football players’ at one point.

‘Those two might have been drinking, but I wasn’t,’ he told police.

At one point, the officer also asked Miller to count backwards, which he successfully managed.

Upon the completion of the final test, the officer put Miller under arrest.

He was released from custody and issued a summons for a hearing at Franklin County Municipal Court on Friday.

Miller has played sparingly this season, completing 7 of 14 passes for 101 yards.
