Rod Stewart regrets releasing album at the same time as Adele and Sting

Oh, go Easy On Me! Rod Stewart, 76, reveals regret over releasing album at the same time as Adele because he really wanted to get his eighth Number One album – (and now he’s got no chance!)


Singing icon Rod Stewart has revealed his regret over releasing his eighth album at the same time as Adele this weekend.  

Speaking on BBC Radio 5’s Headliners podcast on Wednesday, the Forever Young artist said he’s never been fussed over ‘how many copies’ his albums sells, as people only ‘remember number ones’.

‘I’d rather not have this album coming out right now with Adele and, who else is coming out? Sting,’ Rod began.

‘Everybody’s got an album coming out now. So I wanted my eighth number one album, so I wanted it to come out in the summer.

‘I don’t care about how many copies it sells. I just like that number one. People remember number ones,’ he continued.

Adele and Sting are both releasing their latest albums on November 19 – Adele’s 30 and Sting’s The Bridge.  

Elsewhere in the chat, Rod admitted to having had a ‘couple of good cries’ during lockdown.  

‘I’ve had a couple of good cries during the lockdown. What man hasn’t? I mean I did. I have my lovely wife to put her arms around me, pull me together, and all my kids.’

Rod is married to Penny Lancaster, 50, who he wed in 2006.   

The couple share sons Alastair, 15, and Aiden, 10 and Rod has six other children from his previous relationships.

He shares daughter Renee and son Liam with his second wife Rachel Hunter and children Kimberly and Sean with first wife Alana.

Rod also has a daughter named Sarah from his relationship with Susannah Boffey in the sixties and shares Ruby with ex Kelly Emberg, who he dated from 1983-1990.

Earlier this week, Rod appeared on the BBC One show earlier this week to discuss The Tears of Hercules and said it was ‘the best album he’s made in a long time’.   

He also revealed that one of the songs on the new album, Touchline, was dedicated to his father, who he says taught him and his brothers to love football. 

The crooner has also dedicated two tracks – I Can’t Imagine and Precious Memories – to his wife Penny.
