Jockey Robbie Dunne left a female amateur jockey in tears and feeling intimidated with a verbal blast in the weighing room at Chepstow, a hearing was told yesterday.

Hannah Welch made the claim on day three of the BHA disciplinary hearing into allegations that Dunne verbally abused and harassed Bryony Frost, Britain’s most successful female jockey.

Welch said Dunne had been irritated when she tried to line up inside him before a race in 2018, claiming he ‘shouted and swore’ at her repeatedly.

Questioned by Roderick Moore, Dunne’s barrister, Welch said: ‘I was incredibly upset. It was a contributory factor to me giving up National Hunt racing. It is not something easily forgotten.’

When Moore put it to Welch that if Dunne had crossed the line it would have been called out by fellow jockeys or valets, she replied: ‘That is the problem. It wasn’t.’

The hearing was adjourned until Tuesday.
