This is the terrifying moment a family trying to cross the road are nearly knocked over by bikers running a red light.

The dashcam footage was captured at Shaftsbury Lights crossing on York Road in Leeds just after 3pm on December 6. 

In the video, the family with young children start to cross the road while cars are stopped at the traffic lights.

However, moments after they started to cross 12 bikers, including some on quad bikes, swarm through the red light almost knocking over the family.

Some of the bikers drive past at speed while others are doing wheel spins.

A young girl starts to cross in front of her parents, but a car moves forward and blocks her off.

As the bikers ride between the traffic and up the outside, the girl runs back scared towards her parents.  

The woman who shared the dash cam video, who didn’t wish to be named, said: ‘They were swerving all over the road around the cars and people.

‘It was pretty disgusting that’s why I wanted to highlight it. The poor little girl they nearly hit must have been traumatised.’

The woman also added that many people had commented on the video saying the same group had been spotted riding around the Armley and Yeadon areas of Leeds.

Another comment said to let the bikers have fun. A woman responded: ‘I bet they wouldn’t say let them have fun if it was their family.’

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: ‘West Yorkshire Police takes the issue of road safety seriously and continues to work with partners across the force area to make our roads safer for all.

‘Anyone with dashcam footage of a road traffic offence they would like investigating is asked to submit the footage via our Safer Roads Media Submissions portal on the West Yorkshire Police website.’
