Manchester United: 12 players will earn MORE than interim boss Ralf Rangnick

REVEALED: 12 Man United players earn MORE than interim boss Ralf Rangnick this season… with big-money deals breaking strict wage structure which saw none of Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad earn more than him

  • Over a whole starting XI of Manchester United players earn more than their boss
  • Ralf Rangnick is believed to be set to earn almost £8million for a six-month deal
  • Cristiano Ronaldo and David de Gea will rake in millions more than Rangnick
  • Under Sir Alex Ferguson, no United player would bring in more than the coach

Manchester United have an astonishing 12 players who earn more than their interim boss Ralf Rangnick, it has been revealed, breaking an age-old tradition under legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Rangnick, who has joined United on a six-month contract and will then move into an advisory role for two years, is believed to be set to bank almost £8million for his work until the end of the season.

Having left his role at Lokomotiv Moscow’s sporting director, he has more than doubled his £3.8m earnings in Russia, but this hefty increase is still not enough for him to usurp the salaries of many of his stars.

During Ferguson’s trophy-laden reign at Old Trafford, United’s strict wage structure endured that no squad member would earn more per-week than their coach.

This has now been shattered over the following eight years, however, with over an entire starting XI able to boast that they rake in more than Rangnick.

After the club’s wage bill increased by almost 25 per cent after Cristiano Ronaldo’s homecoming in August, it is no surprise that the superstar is United’s best earner.

He is believed to take home £510,000 every week, making him the best-paid player in both the history of his club and the Premier League.

Next on the list is goalkeeper David de Gea, whose deal sees him earn £375,000-a-week after his lucrative contract extension in the summer of 2019.

New signings Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane are narrowly behind the stopper. The former banks £350,000-a-week, while the latter is on £340,000-a-week.

Bruno Fernandes surprisingly earns £180,000-a-week, but this figure is higher than Rangnick's

United’s record signing Paul Pogba, who looks set to leave the club on a free at the end of the season, has entered the final months of his £290,000-a-week deal.

Also on the star-studded roster of names earning more than Rangnick are Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and captain Harry Maguire.

Bruno Fernandes, meanwhile, surprisingly earns just £180,000-a-week – a lowball number in comparison to his crucial role in the squad.

Juan Mata and Luke Shaw are the final two members of the first-team on better financial terms than the temporary tactician.

The current structure follows a similar pattern to the days under predecessor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was ruthlessly sacked after a torrid run of form.

Under him, six stars from last season’s squad pocketed more than the club legend.
