Shocked McDonald’s customer films bags full of takeaway food being thrown on the floor when he goes to find out what has happened to his delivery

  • Ryan Covill, 35, filmed McDonald’s staff in Dartford, Kent throwing bags of food
  • Filled bags can be seen being chucked to the floor as drivers crowd around
  • Comments on the video posted to Facebook say this was a delivery app issue

This is the moment a shocked McDonald’s customer filmed bags full of food being chucked onto the floor by staff.

Floor layer Ryan Covill, 35, said he captured the video at the McDonald’s in Dartford, Kent on December 3 when he went there after his order was not delivered.

Delivery drivers can be seen waiting as staff try to sort through a counter filled with orders before some are thrown to the ground.

A driver in the comments, who claims to be in the video, said the issue arose from a problem with the delivery app Just Eat and that the bags on the floor were meant to be tossed in the bin.

In the clip drivers can be seen crowded around McDonald’s staff who are sorting through an array of bags filled with orders on a counter and a nearby rack.

One employee then begins to grab some orders and throws them on the floor as the disgusted customer films.

A bystander can be heard saying: ‘She’s throwing the food, like it’s no one else’s food, someone’s got to eat that.’

The video, which was posted by Mr Covill’s father Brian is captioned: ‘McDonald’s in Dartford tonight. My son’s food didn’t turn up so he went down there.’

The employee can be seen throwing bags full of food on the floor at a McDonald’s branch in Dartford, Kent on December 3

Mr Covill said: ‘After waiting for my food for over an hour and a half I decided to wait no more.

‘Order was from Just Eat and drove down there. As I literally pull up to the Mac D’s my order was cancelled so I then went in the Mac D’s told them want had happened and yes, one girl gave me my food for free, but there were loads of drivers there waiting for food but no one seemed to have a clue on what was going on.

‘Then she started throwing all the food on the floor. It was nuts, that is someone’s business and they just throw profit away and could of at least offered it to drivers etc but just throwing around in front of people, joke.’

The clip has more than 11,000 views, with some viewers raising concerns about hygiene. Catherine Carter commented: ‘Disgusting. Throwing the food on the floor and food on the floor? Food hygiene failed.’

However, one commenter, who claimed to be a delivery driver said the bags on the floor were meant for the bin, as orders that came through on the drivers’ app had not come through on the McDonald’s system.

They added: ‘The orders on the floor are the mix-ups that went in the bin.’

Commenter Laura Fletcher said: ‘My food is always cold when delivered from here and many times had food missing so gone down there and got the whole order again and hot this time, won’t ever order from there again.’

But Kirsty Reyland added: ‘The food isn’t being thrown on the floor then given to customers. Clearly if that’s what you think is happening then you’re crazy.

‘The staff are clearly over run with orders that wasn’t pinged to drivers so was left sitting around awaiting which happens in most McDonald’s not just this one.’

A Just Eat spokesperson said: ‘At Just Eat, we want all of our customers to have a positive experience when ordering food online.

‘We are currently investigating what happened in this case and are in touch with the restaurant partner.’

A McDonald’s spokesperson said there was a problem with the McDelivery service, which is also available via Just Eat and Uber Eats.

They said: ‘Last weekend McDelivery was unfortunately unavailable at this restaurant for a short time, which caused a delay in orders being picked up.

‘Our team at Dartford worked as quickly as possible to rectify the situation and prepared fresh orders.

‘We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused.’
