Champions League last-16 draw, AS IT HAPPENED (twice!): All the drama from a farcical day at UEFA that infuriated the clubs, before Man United v Atletico and Real Madrid v PSG headlined the draw

  • The Champions League last-16 draw has been completed after take two
  • A first complete draw was voided after a series of errors were made
  • Manchester United have been drawn against Spanish giants Atletico Madrid
  • Liverpool play Inter Milan, Chelsea take on Lille and Man City play Sporting

The draw for the Champions League last-16 has now taken place, at the second attempt, with Real Madrid drawing Paris Saint-Germain in perhaps the pick of the fixtures.

Having gone through the draw in full earlier on Monday morning, UEFA had no choice but to void the initial process, after a number of errors were made.

UEFA cited ‘technical problems’ as Manchester United were drawn against group rivals Villarreal, which is prohibited, while they were also omitted from being drawn against a possible opponent, Atletico Madrid.

In the second draw, United were paired with Atletico Madrid, while Chelsea stuck with their initial opponents, Lille. Meanwhile, Liverpool will take on Inter Milan, while Manchester City play Sporting Lisbon.
