Bethenny Frankel details her ‘horrific, nightmare divorce’ from ex Jason Hoppy

Bethenny Frankel is detailing her ‘nightmare divorce’ from ex-husband Jason Hoppy.

The former Real Housewives of New York star admits in the latest episode of her Just B podcast that initially didn’t want to sign a prenup, saying she believed that ‘no one’s taking anything from me.’

‘I have spent millions of dollars, millions of tears. I have had a horrific, hall of fame, nightmare divorce,’ Frankel states in the podcast.

Frankel, 51, finalized her divorce with Hoppy in January, nearly eight years after they initially split, with the star noting that she had now spent 20% of her life divorcing him but they were only married for two years.

‘I ended up marrying someone who was just a regular person, who seemed like they could handle all of what’s going on with me, and being in reality television,’ Frankel explains.

Adding: ‘And I was sort of proud of myself for just marrying someone who had a simple life, and they didn’t come from much, and so they would never want anything from me.’

‘Because this is just not the way that it goes, people who don’t come from a lot just are happy with that sort of small-town life, and that would never really be a whole issue.’

The Skinnygirl mogul has an estimated net worth of $70million, and up until just this month, had been paying child support to Hoppy.

Talking about her issues with a prenuptial agreement, Frankel reasoned: ‘I’m trusting and I just don’t want to deal with this, and it was embarrassing.’

‘The word “prenup” was embarrassing to me. It’s uncomfortable, it’s awkward. A contract when you get married? It’s an uncomfortable, awkward concept.’

After tying the knot in 2010, the pair would separate just two years later in 2012.

They reached a financial settlement in 2016, but have still been fighting over custody of their 11-year-old daughter Bryn, which was only resolved this month.

But it seems the years-long saga has left Frankel feeling rattled.

‘What I have overcome and accomplished in divorce is so much more than I have accomplished in philanthropy and in business,’ she said on her show.

‘Divorce has been my greatest struggle and ultimately my greatest matter to survive. And it was torture.’

‘I’ve been through an ordeal. I’ve been through hell. I’ve been to hell and back. I cannot express to you how bad my experience has been.’

However, Frankel didn’t get too specific on the details, just that with her first experience of marriage and divorce, it was a lot simpler as she had married a wealthy man in her 20s.

After almost three years, Frankel walked away from that union, not asking for anything.

She warned her listeners – presumably talking about her experience divorcing Hoppy – saying: ‘If I had known that getting into marriage is the same thing as getting into business together with a business partner, my eyes would have been more open. So for those of you listening…’

The ex RHONY star quoted boxer Mike Tyson, saying: ‘Everyone’s got a plan until they get punched in the face.’

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Frankel no longer has to pay Hoppy child support, after her ex-husband agreed to remove himself from the ‘toxic environment’ of their custody battle.

It was revealed in a remote court hearing that partly due to her parents’ nasty divorce battle, Frankel’s daughter Bryn has been suffering from ‘anxiety, hyperventilation and hives’ and often refuses to see her father.

The star’s attorney Allan Mayefsky requested that his client stop paying child support for their daughter as she has chosen to primarily live with her mother.

Frankel married film producer Paul Bernon in 2018.
