Everton meanwhile are desperate for midfield reinforcements following injuries to Abdoulaye Doucoure and Fabian Delph, who are expected to be out for at least four weeks with groin and thigh problems respectively.

‘Anyway, this will happen behind closed doors. When we have something to announce, we will announce.’

The midfielder has scored 12 goals in 102 appearances for the Blues since making his first-team debut in 2014.

He has had two spells out on loan before and after an Achilles tendon rupture in 2019, representing fellow London outfits Crystal Palace and Fulham.
