However, the presenter has tactics when it comes to keeping the secret and even conceals the identities from his wife, Hannah.

He explained: ‘I try as a rule to never say the name of anyone who is in the mask once I have left the studio. I try to block the show out of my mind.’

This comes after Keane singer Tom Chaplin, 42, was unveiled as Poodle on last weekend’s show who left the competition after his rendition of Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield.

The rocker became the fifth celebrity to be revealed after tennis legend Pat Cash, 56, was unveiled as Bagpipes, Heather Small was unveiled as Chandelier, Snow Leopard was unmasked as Gloria Hunniford and Will Young turned out to be Lionfish.

After his performance judges Davina McCall, Rita Ora, Mo Gilligan and Jonathan Ross guessed it could be Mika or Rylan under the costume, but they were incorrect.

Speaking after being unmasked Tom said: ‘I’ve loved it, I found it exhilarating and terrifying and confusing, but I really have had the best time.’

In a post-show interview, Tom lifted the lid on why he decided to take part in the show, saying: ‘I’ve got to a point in my life where I don’t take myself too seriously anymore. I think that’s pretty important if you’re going to dress up as a seven foot multi-coloured poodle.

‘I’ve also become much more interested in embracing different challenges – being in a band is like living on a little island, so it’s good to try things that are out of your comfort zone!’

The Masked Singer continues on Saturday at 7pm on ITV.
