Martin Freeman ‘is now worth more than £15m thanks to glittering Hollywood career that includes lead roles in The Hobbit and Fargo’


Martin Freeman is now worth an eye-watering £15 million, according to reports.

The actor, 50, is currently starring in The Responder on BBC1, but it’s Martin’s roles in blockbuster films including The Hobbit and Black Panther – not to mention playing the lead in season one of Fargo – that sent his net worth skyrocketing.

According to The Sun, Martin’s ‘Hollywood success means he is now worth £15 million’.

The paper adds: ‘His company Geoffrey Joseph Ltd has £4.1m in cash and a second outfit called Rita Maris Ltd has £1.5m cashed away.’

Martin’s most recent role sees him play police officer Chris Carson in comedy-drama The Responder and his performance has been met with rave reviews.

Written by ex-policeman Tony Schumacher, the five-part series follows police officer-on-the-edge Carson as he’s mentally pushed to the limit while working night shifts.

His character battles to keep things together both professionally and personally as his marriage is on the rocks.

It comes after the star revealed he spoke to himself in a Liverpudlian accent for a year and a half in preparation for the project.

Having filmed the series on the streets of Liverpool, The Hobbit star revealed he ‘followed his ear’, having spent a lot of time speaking to residents of the city.

He told Metro: ‘I walked around for a year and a half, occasionally just talking to myself in scouse. Even though you’re not always the best judge of your own thing, I do trust my ear.

‘If I say something, I know when it sounds off. I got very, very exact about that stuff. You have to be, because if I don’t do it well, it’s a terrible accent to get wrong.

He went on to joke: ‘There are some accents where you don’t want to be in that city among the inhabitants of that city making a balls up of it.’
