Aston Villa decide against pursuing a deal for Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma

Aston Villa decide against making a move for midfielder Yves Bissouma as Brighton want £50MILLION for player who is out of contract next year

  • Aston Villa had a bid of around £25million rejected earlier in the window
  • Villa pulled out of a move for Juventus’ Rodrigo Bentancur last Thursday
  • Brighton want £50m for the 25-year-old, who has 18 months left on contract
  • Villa are willing to make a compromise offer to see if Brighton will negotiate

Aston Villa have decided against pursuing a deal for Yves Bissouma at Brighton.

Manager Steven Gerrard will work with his current squad for the rest of the season.

Villa had a £25million offer rejected earlier this month and are likely to return with a new bid for Bissouma in the summer when the 25-year-old will have just 12 months left on contract.

Bissouma is back from international duty with Mali at the Africa Cup of Nations and was said to be open to making the move.

Brighton wanted £50m for the 25-year-old, who has 18 months left on contract and Villa know that valuation will have to come down in the summer.

The danger with that though is other big clubs, who are currently not as well placed as Villa financially, will be looking to strike a deal for Bissouma.

Newcastle have also asked about Bissouma this window but after signing Bruno Guimaraes have been concentrating on other priorities.

Liverpool legend John Barnes said last week that Bissouma would be a better fit at Anfield rather than Newcastle or Villa.

Brighton might have to lower their valuation of Bissouma in summer due to his contract length

Brighton might have to lower their valuation of Bissouma in summer due to his contract length

‘From a Liverpool perspective, it would be lovely to see Yves Bissouma playing at Anfield rather than for Newcastle or Aston Villa,’ Barnes told BonusCodeBets.

‘If you look at the age of Liverpool’s midfielders, a lot of them are aged 30 or older, Yves is young and would be an excellent signing for the club.

‘As to whether Bissouma wants to leave Brighton right now and sign for another team in a relegation dog fight, then that’s up to him.’
