Outrage as Whoopi Goldberg claims ‘the Holocaust is not about race’: Co-host stuns The View by insisting it was about ‘man’s inhumanity to man’ because Nazis targeted ‘two white groups of people’
Whoopi Goldberg claimed on Monday that the Holocaust ‘was not about race’ because it involved ‘two groups of white people’ and instead was an example of ‘man’s inhumanity to man’.
Goldberg made the astonishing comments on The View, the show she co-hosts on ABC.
It stunned her co-hosts and sparked outrage among viewers.
‘WTF? This is insane. The extermination of 6 million Jews wasn’t about race??? Will any rock stars or renegade royals now boycott Whoopi Goldberg and/or ABC for this dangerous misinformation?’ tweeted Piers Morgan.
Whoopi Goldberg sparked outrage by claiming on The View that the Holocaust was ‘not about race’ because it’s ‘two white groups of people’.
‘If you’re going to do this, then let’s be truthful about it,’ Goldberg said to start the debate. ‘Because the Holocaust isn’t about race. No, it’s not about race.’
Co-host Joy Behar intervened and asked Goldberg: ‘Then what was it about?’
‘It’s about man’s inhumanity to man,’ Goldberg answered. ‘That’s what it’s about.’
Another co-host on the show, Anna Navarro stepped in, saying, ‘Well, it’s about white supremacy. That’s what it’s about. It’s about going after Jews and gypsies.’
‘But these are two groups of white people,’ Goldberg clarified. ‘But you’re missing the point. The minute you turn it into race, it goes down this alley. Let’s talk about it for what it is. It’s how people treat each other. It’s a problem. It doesn’t matter if you’re Black or white, because Black, white, Jews… everybody eats each other.’
Goldberg’s comments came after members of the broadcast held a discussion about a Tennessee school board voting earlier this month to remove ‘Maus,’ a Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel about the Holocaust, which is part of a nationwide eighth grade language arts curriculum.
