Ian Poulter has been offered up to £22million to join the new Saudi-backed Super Golf League – but would have to turn his back on the Ryder Cup to play in it.
The 46-year-old Englishman, who has become a cult figure for his Ryder Cup heroics, is understood to have been offered between £14.8m and £22.2m to be one of the faces of the SGL, which is aiming to attract players from the PGA and DP World Tours.
Both organisations would issue lifetime bans to any players who defect to the Saudi league, which would prevent them from playing in the Ryder Cup.

Poulter, an inspirational figure in Europe’s Miracle of Medinah victory in 2012, has always demonstrated his passion for the event and has said he wants to try to qualify to play once more in Rome next year.
He would also be a prime candidate for the captaincy, possibly at Oak Hill, New York in 2025.
Henrik Stenson, another top candidate for Europe leadership roles, has also been approached by the new league.
The pair are both playing in this week’s Saudi International in Jeddah.
Appearance fees of up to £11.1m have been offered by the event to attract the likes of Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau.
