Penelope touched on being a working mum, with Lorraine applauding her for ‘getting the balance right.’

The actress gushed: ‘I feel very lucky to be in that position. And to be able to choose the projects I work on, because my priority is the children.’

Penelope also revealed she would love to star in a musical or comedy with husband Javier Bardem, who sings in the new film Being The Ricardos.

She told Lorraine: ‘I always knew that [he was good at singing]. But he said he wasn’t. I always thought “he has a great ear and an amazing voice”.

‘And now on the show he finally saw that he can do it.’

Asked if they would ever sing together in a film, Penelope said: ‘I would love that. Something like a comedy or a musical. That would be great to do that someday.’

Last month, the Parallel Mothers star first touched on the idea of singing with her husband, after watching him belt out some tunes in Being the Ricardos.

The actress never considered herself a singer until director Rob Marshall convinced her she could for the 2009 musical Nine.

Penelope revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that her husband was the same way, and now she wants to make a musical with him.

When asked about the potential for making a musical with her husband, Cruz said, ‘I would love to. I saw my husband singing in and he did an incredible job!’

‘He was feeling the same way I was feeling when I did when I had no idea that I could sing but then Rob Marshall convinced me after doing a couple of tests that I could,’ she said of her Nine director.

‘And then because I danced for 18 years, ballet, and I’m a big fan of the dance world and music, it’s such a powerful art for me, even more than cinema, so for me the genre of musicals is a dream! I’ve only done one, so I hope I can repeat it someday,’ she added.
