This is the incredible moment a wingsuit flier glided down a snow-covered mountainside in Switzerland – before parachuting down to safety.  

French daredevil Vincent Martinod, 27, soared down Verbier’s rocky mountainside in the Swiss Alps at breathtaking speed.

Footage from his GoPro camera, shows the extreme athlete dipping so low at one point he seems certain to smash into the snowy rock beneath him as races his shadow.

At one point Martinod seemed certain to smash into the snowy rock beneath him and looked like he was gliding just inches away from the mountain floor

The incredible video, taken in December, show Martinod plunging down a rocky drop and zipping past snow-covered trees. 

The heart-stopping footage stops as he pulls his parachute to glide down to the ground. 

Posting the nerve-racking video on Instagram, Mr Martinod captioned it: ‘Fastest way down from Verbier.’

The Swiss Alpine resort is at an altitude of 4,921ft (1,500m) and is the gateway to the 4 Vallées ski area.

One person viewing Martinod’s footage commented: ‘Don’t catch your shadow!’

Another wrote: ‘My fingers are cold just from watching this.’

One more added: ‘Epic. Love watching the tiny shadow you make when flying.’   

Mr Martinod is notorious for his extreme stunts, regularly posting photos and videos of himself on Instagram.

His other stunts include riding a bike off a mountain and base jumping from alpine heights.
