Mel Morris has been invited by EFL chiefs to attend talks aimed at ensuring Derby avoid liquidation.
The former owner of the Championship club, who have been in administration since September, has been urged to attend talks along with administrators Quantuma and representatives from Middlesbrough and Wycombe, as well as the taxman.
Sportsmail revealed last week that the club’s future could be decided in the High Court as compensation claims from Middlesbrough and Wycombe, relating to historical financial breaches by the Rams, remain unresolved. But the EFL insists they are determined to avoid that outcome.

‘The EFL has previously requested mediation between the two Clubs (Middlesbrough and Wycombe) and the Administrators and is today inviting all relevant and associated parties involved to enter formal collaborative negotiations to actively seek out the compromises and solutions required to ensure that Derby County has a long-term future,’ read the statement.
‘For the avoidance of any doubt the EFL is requesting the attendance of Administrators and the following stakeholders to participate: the current highest bidder(s), Middlesbrough, Wycombe Wanderers, Mel Morris, MSD Partners and HMRC.’
Former Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has bid to buy the club – one of three parties to show interest. The administrators have yet to name a preferred bidder as they await a resolution to the Middlesbrough/Wycombe issue.
