Assistant manager Danny Webb took over team affairs from Rowe, who was appointed 15 months ago following a successful stint in charge of Gloucester.

The Spireites sit 2nd in the National League, just one point behind league leaders Stockport, and have a real chance at promotion.

They’ve also enjoyed a successful FA Cup run this season, culminating in a third round defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

‘Danny Webb will take charge of the team.

‘As the matter is subject to an investigation, the club is unable to make further comment until that investigation is complete.’
