But Gerrard knows Ramsey can afford no mistakes if he is to fulfil his potential. ‘We will give him the support he needs as a club and I’ll give him support as a manager,’ said the Villa boss.

‘He seems very calm and level-headed. It’s important the people in his people in his private life help to keep him humble and grounded.

‘He needs to make the right decisions and remain professional. To stay that consistent at the top level when all eyes are on you and people are talking about you, it’s important to stay humble, respectful and focus on your career.

‘You need to make the right sacrifices as well to stay at the top. If Jacob does the right things the future is extremely bright for him but you can never get ahead of yourself.

‘He knows he’s playing well but he’s not getting carried away. He is working extremely hard, doing all his gym work.

‘He is first on the training pitch and last off. He knows what he needs to do to stay at this level and stay consistent.’
