Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is aware that his side could soon require a defensive overhaul, especially given that another of his centre-backs, Thiago Silva, is 37 years old.

Webster’s Premier League experience is appealing to Chelsea, with the defender having played 74 times in the division since he joined Brighton from Bristol City in 2019.

Having started out at Portsmouth, Webster moved on to Ipswich Town prior to joining Bristol City.

The 27-year-old was on the scoresheet on Saturday as Brighton secured a 2-0 victory away to Watford.

Newcastle have also been linked with a move for Webster, who has produced some encouraging displays in the top flight.

Eder Militao of Real Madrid is seen as an alternative option for Chelsea, but Webster’s homegrown status could be useful.
